INFLUX OF ASIATICS.
DANGER TO THE MAORIS. METHODIST SYNOQ'S PROTEST. At the Methodist Synod at New Plymouth yesterday afternoon, the Rev. Robt. Haddon, the well-known superintendent, of the Maori work in Taranaki, made some strong remarks on the problem of the Maoris and the influx of Asiatics. He said the young Maori party was a proud party, alive to their finest traditions, unswervingly loyal to the British nation, to which they were indebted for the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and that they felt very deeply on this question. He moved the following resolution: "That the Synod call the attention of tho Government to the fact that the influx of male Indian immigrants, unaccompanied by females of their own race, is a grave menace to the welfare of the Maoris in certain districts." This was carried. The Rev. Haddon deplored the fact that there was intermarriage going on, and it was felt by the members of the Synod that this resolution should be given wide publicity, so that all that was possible should be done to curtail the inflow of Asiatics and alien peoples.
