HIGH PRICES FOR JERSEYS.
KEEN DEMAND CONTINUES. SALE AT NEW PLYMOUTH. That the demand for Jerseys is as keen as ever was demonstrated at the pedigree sale which was conducted by Newton King, Ltd., at their Walwakalho yards yesterday, when a number of high-class pedigree cattle were submitted on' behalf of Messrs. H. Stonex (Bell Block), R. \V. Reube (Westown), and J. H. Street (Bell Block). .There was a very representative attendance of. buyers from all parts of Taranakl, and bidding was very keen. All the cattle, which were in splendid condition, wera disposed of at excellent prices. Six tows and two-year-old heifers were submitted en behalf of Mr. Stonex, and they averaged 158 guineas, the top price being realised by Bay View's Lass, which was secured by Mr. J. C. Nicholson (of Hawera), at 190 gns. Mr. J. B. Groom secured the two-year-old heifer Beetle's Passion Flower, at 186 gns. Their six calves also averaged 67y a gns., top price being realised by the six weeks old nelfer calf from the top-priced cow, which was purchased by Mr. J. B, Groom, for 92 gns. A yearling heifer also realised 100 gns., while the two-year-old bull Oakland's Squire Mahone realised 105 gns. In all the fourteen submitted on behalf of Mr. Stonex realised 1559 guineas, or an average of 111% gns. Top price for the sale was realised by Mr. C. W. Reube's tandsome two-year-old heifer Avoca's Daisy, which was purchased by Mr. P. H. Sharpe (Te Rotl) for 312 gns. Her four months old calf by Oakland's Squire Mahono realised 160 gns., going to South Taranaki, the Hawera breeder, Mr. V. W. Nowell, being the purchaser. In all the 18 animals submitted realised an average of just on 120 gna, Mr. Ken Kirk' wielded the hammer. Details are as follows :
