NEW ZEALAND MEAT IN NEW YORK. Messrs. R. Arlow and Co. Ltd., write 1 — "Following upon the Press Association's cabled message from New York dated Nov. 19. reporting arrivals of New Zealand meat, in New York, and anticipating that His will realise from 28 to 35 cents per lb. retail. As these values are so much in advance of other reports, and to remove any misapprehension which the New Zealand grower may have as to actual values of our meat in the States, we cabled to our New York representatives for information on the subject, and a reply has been received stating that the finest quality New Zealand lamb is realising twenty cents per lb. wholesale landed terms. For delivery in tile near future buyers are indicating only 18 cents. "011 to-day's conversion rate of 3.50 dollars to the £ sterling this Is equal to 12.34 pence per lb. on the market, The charges from New Zealand port to landing In New York equal per lb., hence the f.o.b. New Zealand value of tile best quality lamb Is just over B%d per lb. "It Is Impossible for any shipments of new season's meat to be 'made to New York for [some considerable time, hence any further rise in the exchange rate will' mean a diminution in the equivalent f.o.b. New Zealand values. In other words, every rise In exchange or ten points means three-tenths of a penny per lb. 1«*» "
