A branch of the League of Nations Union has been established with the objest of assisting to install the League as the arbiter of world disputes and to foster mutual understanding and create a world organisation able to guarantee freedom, liberty and peace. Sydney, Nov. 9. A tragedy is reported at Matrom Creek, Alstonville. While shielding his daughter from Hubert Joiner, a returned soldier and rejected suitor who was endeavouring to shoot her. Lewis Lambert was shot through the heart. .Death was instantaneous. Joiner was found in the scrub with a gunshot wound in his head. His condition is serious. Melbourne, Nov. 9. The Commonwealth public servants are agitating for a basic wage and have decided to inundate Parliamentarians with 10,000 letters to each member.
