A lightning strike of electricians has deprived the city of practically the whole of its electric light, and has also stopped the trams. It is reported that the strikers will provide current for public purposes, fearing the intervention of the citizens' emergency organisation which is alwayß ready for such cases. Paris, Nov. S. The Chamber passed a resolution in favour of burying an unknown poilu under the Arc De Triomphe. London, Nov. 8. Shaekleton says he has done with the Antarctic, but intends to explore the Arctic. Constantinople, Nov. 7. In response to an Allied demand for the ratification of the Sevres Treaty, the Porte has sent a temporising Note stating that the matter is not pressing and immediate ratification would defeat the chances of an understanding between the Porte and the Kemalists. London, Nov. 6. A Moscow wireless states the United States rejected France's proposal to join a blockade of Soviet Russia on the Biack Sea coast. Abo (Finland), Nov. 7. Death sentences imposed by the Moscow tribunal during September totalled 1286, mostly on charges of treason or desertion. Twenty persons were executed for drunkenness.—Times. Port of Spain (Trinidad), Nov. 7. The local Government has announced a revision of the Customs tariffs tinder the arrangement with Canada.
