PROPOSED STOPPAGE OF WORK.
PROTEST BY STRATFORD CTIAM BER OF COMMERCE.
Aii addition to the long list of protest* which have been lodged against the proposal of the Minister of Public Works to utop all work beyond Tabora. on the Stratford-Okahukura railway, was made at the meeting of the Stra'tford Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday night, when the following resolution, moved by the chairman (Mr. J. B. Uichnrds) and seconded by Mr P. Thomson, was carried unanimously:—"That this Chamber strongly protests against the proposal contained in the Public Works Statement to cease work 011 the west end of the Strntford-Okaluikura main railway line. It considers the construction of this line of first importance and that continuation of tunnel work ai the west end should be steadily proceeded with in order that through communication shall not .(be delayed. The establishment of through communication will vastly benefit the whole of Taranaki including the Ohura district, and large areas of flic Waikato. Moreover access (0 coal supplies in urgently needed to lurtlici develop industries throughout Tarannki."
It was decided to telegraph copy of tt'o resolution to Mr. K. Masters, M.P,. and to ask him to present it to the Prime Minister and Ihe Minister of Public Works.
