DIRECT SHIPPING.
DAIRY COMPANIES' INDENTS. PROPOSAL BY STRATFORD CHAMBER . OF COMMERCE. Speaking at a mooting of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday night, the chairman (Mr. .1. H. Richards said that a matter arising out of the t|iiextiou of direct shipping had been brought to iiis notice by two directors of the Cardilf Co-operative Dairy Company, Messrs. Belcher and Richards. These two gentlemen had approached him and asked that the Stratford Chamber of Commerce circularise the whole of the dairy companies in Taranaki asking them to instruct their agents to *hip all indents by boats coming direct to New Plymouth. He (Mr. Richards) had written to Mr. List, of the Taranaki Chamber, in connection with the matter, and Mr. List, after conferring wiili Mr. A. Morton, chairman of the National Dairy Association, had drawn up a circular for sending to all dairy companies, and h.'ul suggested that the .Stratford Chamber should send out the circulars. Mr. Richards suggested that another circular should lie drafted by the Stratford Chamber and sent out to the dairy companies, as well as the one drawn up by the Taranaki Chamber, Coming from the -Stratford Chamber, which was not such an interested party as the Taranaki Chamber, he thought; the circulars might have belter elfeet. lie moved that » circular be drawn up and printed and forwarded to all the cooperative dairy companies in Taranaki urging them to instruct their indent agents to ship goods direct to New Plymouth.
The motion was seconded by Mr. AV P Kirkwood, and carried, unanimously
