THE MAYOR RESIGNS.
RETIREMENT IN A FORTNIGHT, Sir. .lames Clarke ha? decided to nsign the position of Mayor of New Ply* mouth owing to stress of business and the state of his wife's health. He will probably go out of office the week after next. The Council has the appointing of a successor for the ensuing five months. It is understood Mr. VV. A. Collis. senior councillor, has been approached to take the position, and that providing hit health will permit, he will accede to the, request.
