RAILWAYMEN PROTEST, ; CHEAPER BUTTER OR MORE PAY, By TelenriDh.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The following resolution was passed at a meeting of railwaymen held at Lyttelton this morning:— "That this combined, massed meeting of railwaymen strongly protests against the recent rise in butter and other commodities, and we request all other organisations, as well as the general public, to endorse the proposal declaring putter consigned for export 'black,' until it has been reduced to its original price, or a proportional increase in wages is granted to wage earners. "Further, wa call upon the Qorernineiit to take more drastic measures to preevi'i profiteering; also, to take into serious consideration the continual rise in the price of the necessities of life, with the object of arriving at gome solution of the alarming difficulty. We' also urge the executive councils of the three railway societies to press for an increase in wages to meet the increased cost of living that has taken place since the last negotiations under the Labor Disputes Investigation Act." Auckland, Oct, 11. The Auckland railwayman discussed the question of taking action with reference to the increase in the price of butter, etc., and resolved not to support the action of the Wellington branches, but to refer the matter to a general conference to be held in Wellington oa November 1.
