REPATRIATION.
NEW PLYMOUTH COMMITTEE. The New Plymouth Repatriation Committee met last evening. Present: Messrs. 0. 11. Weston (chairman), W. J. Chaney, T. Furious, 0. Carter, F. W. Okey, R. J. Clarke, K. Whittle, T. C List, H. R. Cattley, J. R. Rowlands, F. Hartncll, and the secretary (A. S. Allen). The question of the payment of a retained subsidy in the case of a trainee who had left his employer foi another position, was considered, it, being decided not to pay the amount. The oxecutive's action in; granting nine loans ranging in amounts fr/im £S 13s to £7~), were confirmed, as was their action in granting allowances (1) for a carpenter to complete two years of apprenticeship; (2) for it man lo learn carpentering; (3) for the payment of a retained subsidy in respect of two farm trainees. Three loans for the purchase of furniture (two of .C7"> and one of £tiO), were approved. Another application for a loan of .C7~> was held over pending receipt of a satisfactory guarantor. Financial assistance for fourteen months was granted to a disabled man learning a new trade.
