VICTORIA LEAGUE.
ACQUIRES KIA ORA TEA ROOMS. I STEP TOWARDS EXPANSION. The New Plymouth branch of the Victoria League has acquired the top flat of the A.M.P. buildings, which has been occupied by the Kia Ora -tea room* since the building was opened. The tea rooms will be closed from the end of thß week, and the Victoria League will take possession on Monday. The completion of negotiations was announced by Mrs. Burgess at the fortnightly meeting of the League last night. Mrs. Burgess said the rooms would provide a more suitable plaoe for th« League's expansion, and would serve as an admirable place of meeting and entertainment, She put forward a plea that not only the ladies, hut also the gentlemen of the town, should join thi League. There seemed to b» an Impression abroad that the League was for ladles exclusively, but this was not go, and every gentleman who cared to join would be cordially welcomed. Mrs. Burgesa said the new roms would be taken over as from Monday next, and. on the following Thursday the annual meeting will bo held, when the League will go further into the matter. Mrs. Burgess pointed out that the need for larger and more elaborately appointed rooms had long been felt', and undoubtedly the acquisition of these rooms would be welcomed by all as a decided advancement in the progress of the> League. With more efficient means at their disposal the League would be abl« to entertain visitors to the town.
