GAS SERVICE.
I ''CUT" NARROWLY AVERTED. FORTNIGHT'S SUPPLY IN SIGHT. Though the Now Plymouth Gas Company anticipated on Saturday that a "cut" would have to be made in .the gas supply for a. certain period yesterday, this retrenchment was not necessary, as a small quantity of coal was procured to enable the supply to be kept up. The coal, however, was not of very suitable quality for gas-making purposes, which probably accounts for the noticeable poorness of the gas. After carrying 011 with short stocks of coal for some time the company had anticipated receiving relief witli the arrival of the Kini on Saturday morning. However, this vessel was a day lute, and the company feared that the supplv 01 m would have to be cut off for a time. The management was later able to secure a truck ot eoal from the railway department. J The Kini, whose consignment includes l.iO tons lor ll.e works, arrived yesterday morning, and berthed in the evening, and the coal should be available this morning. The allotment will snHicc for about a fortnight, but the company hopes to secure further coal through local merchants, so that the future supply should be well maintained.
