DEPARTURE OF PORT PIRIJ3. MAJUIU DUE THIS WEEK, , ANOTHER NEW YORK STEAMER. After a stay of .seventeen days in New Plymouth, her only port of call in New Zealand on this trip, the C. and D. liner i ort Pirie sailed yesterday evening about 5..10 for London, via Australian ports. Captain Enright, formerly chief officer, was in command, and the vessel was taken out of port by the harbor-master (Captain Waller), Captain West, who has given up command of the Pon Pirie to become Marine
Superintendent for the company in New Zealand, witnessed the departure, and expressed appreciation of the way the liner was handled. There wu-, a very largo crowd of people from all parts of the district to witness the departure, and as the big vessel drew slowly out there were many exchanges of farewell greetings between those on board and the spectators on the wharf, the officers of the ship having made many friends during their stay here. When the vessel left port she was drawing 21ft Oin forward and 21ft 7in aft. -The Port Piric's cargo is a record one for any individual vessel leaving New Plymouth, and its value is approximately £220,000. It is made up of 80,130 freight carcases of meat and 12,700 crates of cheese. The mqat was drawn from Patea, Waitara and New Plymouth works, and the cheese came from the stores of the Taranaki Producers' Company at Moturoa. THE DIRECT SERVICE. The Shaw, Savill liner Mamari, which is coming to New Plymouth with a cargo for Taranaki from England, leaves Lyttclton to-morrow for Wellington, and is due to arrive at New Plymouth on Saturday. i The local agents of the Shavv, Savill Company (Messrs. Newton King, Ltd.) advise that her inward cargo totals 1700 tons, consisting of 1200 tons Leeds slag, about 350 tons salij the balance being mixed general cargo. After discharge, the vessel wilf lift 52,000 freight carcases of frozen meat on account of the Taranaki Farmers' Moat, Co., and about 500 casks of tallow and 2.>00 cases of preserved meats. From this port she proceeds to Waitara to load frozen meat, tallow etc. NEW YORK SERVICE. The third vessel of the U.S. and A. line to visit New Plymouth will be the alton Hall, which is due in .November, She left Now York on October 7 for Auckland and is due there about November 11. Thence the vessel proceeds to Wellington, and should arrive at New Plymouth about the end of the month. _ The local agents have received no official advice as yet, but. it is anticipated the vessel's cargo will consist of case oil. Prom New Plymouth the Walton Hall is scheduled to proceed to Newcastle. Other vessels of the line which ( have called at this port are the Lorain and the Donald McKay.
