Mr. J. W. Swan son has been appointed Lord Mayor of Melbourne (says a cable message). Three days' leave of absence on account of illness was granted by the House of Representatives on Friday to Mr. W, T. Jennings (Waitomo). Mr. N. Fulton, of the Dairy Division, left New Plymouth on Saturday for Auckland to relieve an officer of the department there who has gone on sick leave. Captain West, who came ashore from the Port Pirie at New Plymouth, leaves by this morning's train en route to Auckland. He takes'up the position of Marine Superintendent in New Zealand for the C. and D. Line. Air. A. Morton was ou Saturday reelected chairman of directors of the Inglewood Bacon Company. Mr. Morton has held this position continuously since the inception of the company 21 years ago. A vote, of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mrs. Linn, was carried at Saturday's meeting of the Hawera County Council. Mrs. Linn was the mother of Cr. K. J. Linn, of the Hawera County Council. Mr. Norman T. Williams has retired, owing to ill-health, from the position of manager in Auckland for the National Insurance Company, which he has occupied for over 20 years. Mr. W. G. Bell has been appointed manager of the branch as from October 1. Mr. do Gruehy, joint manager of the C. and D. Shipping Line for New Zealand, arrived in New Plymouth on Friday evening oil a brief visit in connection with -the Port Pirie's stay in port. He left again on Saturday afternoon for Wellington.
