BOGUS NOTES PLOT
BEVEALED BY ACCIDENT, By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Oct. 3. The Berlin correspondent of the Daily Chronicle states that an extraordinary swindle was spoilt by the port authority at Straulang and Waremuende. Officials boarded a motor yacht which called at Waremuende through an accident to its machinery and discovered cases containing notes of a nominal value of 37,500,000 sterling marks. They were printed by Mermondt when leading the Germans against the Bolsheviks in the Baltic Provinces, but, owing to the failure of the expedition, the issued marks were being sent to the Baltic Provinces for circulation. The ohiof of the plotters, Donour Baumann, and his nephew, were arrested. Letters seized mention numerous high officials ag accomplices.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable \Assn.
