TARANAKI JOCKET CLUB. INCREASED STAKES APPROVED. A meeting of the Taranaki Jockey Club Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs. L. A. Nolan (chairman), W. C. Weston, O. W. Sole, h. B. Webster, W. P. Nicoll, A. Alexander, B. H. Chaney, G. Frsser, N. King, and J. McLeod. Tlie transfer of the filly, La I'aloma (engaged in the Seventh Taranaki Stakes) from H. Brown to H. P, IV Blundell, • wa3 approved. Messrs. King, Fraser, McLeod, Chanej', and Nolan (chairman) were elected members of the Taranaki District Committee. A farm and course committee was set up for the ensuing year. The following officers were appointed for the coming season: Judges, Christmas meeting, Mr. J. Cameron; Autumn, Mr. J. R. L. Stanford; handicapper, Mr. H. Coyle; tline-keeiW, Mr. J. Bennett; clerk of scales, Mr. A. C.Dldivater; assistant clerk of scales, Mr. W. P. Nicoll; surgeon, Dr. Fookes; veterinary surgeon, Mr. R. B. Wood; auditor, Mr. J. S. H. Medley; clerk of course, Mr. U. Payne; starter, Christmas meeting, Mr. A. Vincent; Autumn, Mr. c. O'Connor. The mooting aprpoved of the programmes for the coming season, which show an increase in the total amount of stakes of £2OOO over last season's figures. At the December meeting, the Christmas Handicap has been raised from £3OO to £450, and the Flying from £2OO to £3OO. On the second day, the New Plymouth Handicap will be worth £350, compared with last year's £2OO, and there oje proportionate advances in the other races. At the Autuftu meeting, the Taranaki Cup stake will be worth £IOOO, a.n increase of £250 on the last flxuro, and the F'lyiiig has been set down at £SOO, a rise of £2OO. On the second (lay, the Taul Memorial Handicap will be for a Stake of £6OO, and the Farewell Handicap of £4OO will be run Tho liberal stake money/should attract still further competitors, and ho doubt the quality of the fields will be improved as the result of the Club's forward movement.
