SATURDAY'S REFEREES. Mr. G. Hopkins has been appointed referee in Saturday's Hawcra-Cllfton match, and Mr T. Wilson for the Clifton-Stratford D.11.S match. Clifton seniors will play in red Slid lilac!; jerseys. A PROTEST, (To the Editor.) Sir. —The decision nf the Rugby Union Cm.railtee of management to play' (he CliftonHawera mat* at New Plymouth has caused (Treat disappointment in this district. The claims of Stratford as a centre for the match appear ro be paramount. The Hawera Cluli won the toss for the first match, and Hie second was consequently played at Waitara. .Vow that tho Union has received two "sates" there is no reason why the chance of a big Bate at New Plymouth should he ureed in favor of taking the supporters of hath clubs so far awity'froni their home to witness Hie struggle. Stratford ran be depended upon to draw many hundreds from the southern end who could otherwise not travel the 'on? distance to New Plymouth. Clifton supporters will attend here in equal nuniliers as at New Plymouth, so In the interests of the progress of Rugby in tho province, the committee might have been less parochial in their judgment. Public opinion in the country is growing against the centralisation of management of the game, and the Union had better take notice and "sit up." . This protest is penned simply with a view to encouraging the good old game, as the writer recognises that perhaps it Is too late to alter the venue,— I am etc., .T. S. ROWE, j Stratford, Sept. 14.
