.DOMINION TOURNAMENT. JOKKWOOI) WINS THE OPEN. . ! A TIE FOE SECOND. i , (By Wire.—Spiral Reporter.) | Hamilton, Last Night. The golf championship meeting was continued to-day under good conditions. The rain held off, but a still north-east made scoring hard. The greens were tricky and rather bumpy. Kirkwood never seemed to master the greens, and threw away several strokes in each round. He finished the fourth round with a lead of two strokes, and wound up an easy winner. He drew the usual gallery, but his play was not so accurate as on the opening day. A three was holed at. the first, followed by a nice four. He badly hooked a shor; at the third, and found the bunker on the flrst fairway. He made a magnificent recovery, and just missed a three. He drove into the bunker at the fifth, and the hole cost him four. Again bunkered at. the sixth he overran the green arid got a horrible lie in the bunker. He' played another brilliant stroke, and followed it by holing out. The seventh green cost him three putts, and holing in four at the following holes he turned in 38. Weak approaching at the eleventh cost him a stroke. Then followed three perfect fours. The last four holes were badly played, and the fifteenth cost him three putts. At the sixteenth he hit a great second, but pulled It into the rough. He recovered splendidly, but missed a two yards putt, and then he made the gallery gasp by missing a putt of a foot. He was weak at the last hole, which cost him five. His round took him 78—38 out and 40 In. Ho seemed afraid of the greens, and was always weak in his chip shots, while on two occasions he narrowly escaped a deep bunker. His recoveries from the rough and the bunkers were beautiful. Morpeth, playing lovely golf, had three fours to secure a lead by one stroke, but ho failed. He played his only really bad strokes on the last three greens He had putts of six feet for fours, but missed each one. His 77 was well played He went out in 38 and returned in 39. Dr., Ross again Improved his position by returning the best score of the morning. Ho played hj3 usual sound golf, and the only mistake ho made was failing to recover from the rough off a pulled brassy at the second. He went out in 38 and returned in the same." Douglas, playing against luck on trfe greens, took 40 going out, but played brilliantly coming home, and finished in 77. In the concluding rcmid, Kirkwood opened by missing a putt less than a foot. All through he was playing short. He topped his second at the sixteenth, but made a great recovery, and got; a four The most wonderful stroke of the match was at the last hole. After a long drive he found his ball In a cup, and taking his iron, he smashed down on the ball, which flew straight for the pin, and rested eighteen Inches from the hole. He holed out in three, and completed the round in 76. The performance was loudly applauded. Morpeth had no chance of beating him. His scores were: Out 39. in 37. Dr. Ross and Morpeth fell away in the final round. Dr. Ross found the bunkers, and ran up his score, while Morpeth seemed to be playing safo. His card contained twelve fives. East, by a fine 75, retrieved the position he lost In the morning, and tied with Morpeth fof" second place. Lusk ran up his figures at the 14th by a visit to the bunker.
