DISTINGUISHED SAILOR'S LAPSE. , By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Dunedin, Last Night. William Theodore Thompson, a navy man with a remarkable war record, reappeared at the Police Court this morning to answer charges of theft. The police stated they had made full enquiries and were able to substantiate the accused's statements in regard to his war services. The accused was admitted to probation for two years.
AERIAL SURVEYORS. ' Timaru, Last Night. The Government airmen, Captain Wilkes and Captain Isitt, left Washdyke for the south to-day, but after passing the Waitaki River they ran into a thick fog. They returned to Washdyke, but the fog is now thick there, and they went on to Sockburn. EDUCATIONAL RESOLUTIONS. Wellington, Sept. 10. The 'Technical Education Conference has concluded. Further resolutions were passed urging the Government to commence a system of (lay-time continuation of education by requiring that all trades apprentices in Government or local body control in the vicinity of a technical school should be compelled, as part of the apprenticeship conditions, to attend a technical school in working hours; that properly equipped gymnasia be provided at all technical schools; that provision be made for the establishment of a class to train workers disabled in civil occupations; that girls should be given special inducements to qualify for a Certificate for' housecrafts enabling holders to attain a higher status as home as- 1 sistants; and that provision be madp for the issue by the Education Department, of technical school teachers' certificates with specified requirements.
