GOVERNOR-GENERAL'S RESIDENCES B; Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. Replying to Mr. W. E. Parry (Auckland Central), Mr. Massey said the reason alterations were being made to Government House at Auckland was that similar work was urgently required at the Wellington Government House, and it was proposed that while these alterations ,wcre being made the new Governor-General would go into residence at Government House, Auckland, where it was neceßsary a certain, amount of renovation should be done before Lord Jellicoe arrived. TAXATION AND LOANS. ■ Replying to Mr. E. Newman (Manawatuj, Mr. Massey said it wan not intended to attack, under the new Land arid Income Assessment Bill, income derived from "income tax free" Govern-* ment loans. The contract made by the Government in connection with these loans would be respected. GIFT TO CANADA. Mr. Massey read a communication from the Canadian Government, which was an acknowledgment of a consignment of kauri timber sent by the New Zealand Government, to be used in the new Canadian Houses of Parliament. I'he letter stated the gift was greatly appreciated, and in return the Canadian Government was sending a quantity of Canadian walnut and bird's eye maple to be worked into our new Legislative Chamber*. Mr. Massey Bflid this might appear to be a small thing, but it showed there was good feeling prevailing between the different parte of the Empire.
