Auckland, Sept. 9, Following an Appeal Court decision in June, the Valuation Department assessed the land occupied by the gas mains in Auckland city and suburbs at £99,000 for taxation and rating. The Auckland Gas Company lodged an objection -which -was heard to-day by Mr. Cutten, S.M., and two assessors. Mr. Richmond, counsel for the company, said the department was dealing with an intangible interest ia the land which before had not arisen under the Land Valuation Act. He argued there was no unimproved value in the possessory right held by the company; that the company had no exclusive interest in the land, but merely a statutory right of way. Mr. Peacock, for the department, submitted this right was saleable. Mr. Richmond replied that he thought Dot. The case is proceeding.
