SHORT SHIPPED CARGO.
'LIABILITY LIMIT EXTENDED, By Tolegroph,—Press Association, Wellington, Last Night. The secretary of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce recently wrote to the general manager of the Union Steam Ship Company pointing out that overseas shipping companies trading between the United Kingdom and New Zealand had increased the limit of their liability in respect to short delivered cargo (on bills of lading) from £5 to £lO per cubic foot, and from £IOOO to £2OOO per package. He asked that the Union Company also consider favorably an increase of the limit of liability. In reply the general manager wrote as follows: "We note your inquiry as to limitation of liability for cargo short delivered in bills of lading used in the inter-colonial service. Up til! a short time ago our limit was £5 per foot, with a maximum of £SO in respect of any one package, but we have much pleasure in advising you that last month it was decided to double the extent of our liability, and this accordingly now stands at £lO per cubic foot, with a maximum of £IOO in respect of any one package."
