POLITICIANS DISAGREE.
LIVELY DEBATE IN MELBOURNE. PACIFIC MANDATE QUESTION. By Triegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received August Id, 5.5 p.m. Melbourne, August 5. In the House of Representatives, a motion by Mr. Hughes for leave to introduce a Bill to make provision for the acceptance of ithe mandate over captured German possessions in the Pacific, led to a hot interchange of compliments between Mm and Mr. Ryan. The proce<nJing9 at times were very lively. Mf? Ryan demanded that an idea should be given of the contents of the Bill, but this Mr. Hughes refused, and told him to wait until the measure was introduced. Mr. Hughes accused Mr. Ryan of attending the House only in his spare itime, and said he was not doing enough to earn his Parliamentary salary. Mr. Ryan had his revenge, as the Government failed to secure a quorum of the House, and the motion lapsed.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
