Mr. J. Pa ton returned from Auckland on Saturday night. Mr. Percy Bond, of Nelson, was in New Plymouth yesterday, and leaves for [Hawera this morning. A cable from Rome says that the Pope slipped on a waxed floor while walking from his bedroom to his library, slightly injuring his knee. Messrs. S, G. Smith, W. T. Jennings, R. Masters, and W. D. Powdrell, M.P.'s, were passengers from Wellington by the mail train on Saturday night. A paragraph in the Manchester Daily Dispatch states that it is quite likely Sir Thomas Mackenzie will soon be back again in England, on behalf of some of the great mutton interests of New Zealand. ' A cable from London says that Dr. Poole, formerly of Australia, and latterly of America, is succeeding the Rev. F. B. Meyer in the pastorate of Christ Church, Westminster, in March. The Rev. Meyer is touring Canada in 1921.
