Mr. D. M. Wilson, local district surveyor, who lias been transferred to the Auckland district, leaves for the north on Tuesday. Mr, R. M. Winter, a graduate of the Auckland University College, has been awarded the 1851 Exhibition Science Research Scholarship for 1920. The successful candidate is a returned soldier,— Press Association. At Thursday's meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union executive it was decided to forward a letter of sympathy to Mr. J. McLeod, of Taranaki, who recently suffered bereavement through the death of his wife. Mr. McLeod is chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union. According to the Manchester Daily Dispatch it is quite likely that Sir Thomas Mackenzie will soon be back again in England, on behalf of some of the great mutton interests of New Zealand. The death at New Plymouth of Mr. James Reynolds at the age of 77 years, removes another Maori war veteran. The late Mr. Reynolds came to New Plymouth when a boy, with his parents in the early fifties. His father carried on a small dairy farm and milk-run business at Te Henui, and on his death the work was continued by his son James, who was the youngest of the family. Mr. Reynolds was a member of the mounted force and fought through a number of engagements in the later stages of the war. He will be accorded a military funeral, leaving the public hospital this afternoon at 1,30 for Te Henui cemetery.
