BRITISHER ARRESTED.
ACTION BY THE JAPANESE, INTRIGUES ALLEGED. By Telegraph.—Press Asan.—Copyright, Received August 12, 7.15 p.m. Pekin, August 11. Much indignation has been caused in Shanghai through the arrest by Japanese of Mr. George Shaw, agent for the Butterfleld Swires steamers. He is a leading British merchant at Antung. Mr. Shaw entered Korea to meet his family, who were returning from Japan, and he was arrested on July 13, and kept in a dirty cell (all he was forwarded to Seoul for trial. A police statement asserts that Mr. Shaw's house was the headquarters for Korean intrigues, that he assisted Korean revolutionaries to escape, and that his steamers were used to carry arms and bombs to Korea from Shanghai.—United Service.
