PERSONAL.

Mr. J. Paton leaves this morning on a short visit to Auckland. Mr, F. S. Johns, who has been on a visit to Nelson during the past fortnight, returned by the mail train on Saturday night. Messrs. S. G. Smith and W. T. Jennings, M.P.'s, were passengers by the mail train on Saturday night. Mr. Masters returns this morning, but the others will not return until to-morrow. Mr. C. H. Burton, chief postmaster at New Plymouth, who has been in Wellington during the past few days, returned by the mail train on Saturday night. Mr. I\ J, Hill, who has been on a visit to 'the Great Barrier, arrived in New Plymouth by, the mail train on Saturday night. Messrs. J. Haydeh and Parkin, who accompanied him, return early in the week. The Hon. C. J. Parr, Minister for Education, during his recent visit to Masterton, paid a visit to Mr. A. W. Hogg, ex-'M.P., and Minister in the Seddon Cabi?net, and chatted with him for some time. The condition of Mr. Hogg is unchanged, and he is likely to be confined to his room for some time yet. Mr. C. Cuming, one time editor of the Agricultural Department's journal, and lately editor of the New Zealand Farmer, is taking the editorial chair of the new paper, "The Dairy Farmer," to be published by the New Zealand Co-opera-tive Dairy Co., Hamilton.
