EXPORT OF BUTTER.

DEMAND FOR A FREE MARKET. Regarding the price of butter, the chairman of the Moa Dairy Company (Mr. T. S. Bowler), spealcing at the annual meeting on Saturday, mentioned the demand which the producers had made for a free market. He contended that the butter people had not got a square deah He did not see why thsy should not get for the butter-fat the same as the cheese people got. A shareholder: The only thing is to make cheese. The chairman remarked that before the war 210,000 tons of butter were imported into the United Kingdom, whereas last year there was only 70,000 tons, so there seemed to be a shortage, but they were not allowed to get the price demanded. The sale of butter locally had been stopped by the company. He believed that eventually they would get a free market, and he stated that the Prime Minister was making representations on these lines, on behalf of the producers, to the Home Government.
