NEW POSTAL RATES.

OPERATE FROM TO-MORROW. "Remember the increase in postage," is the Departmental injunction to Taranaki! people in view of the rise in rates which operates from to-morrow, August Ist. Letters will bo charged 2d, ,with late, fee 2d, newspapers Id,, and parcels Od for the first pound, and there lias also been alteration in various other charges in connection with the post office business-. The new schedule has appeared in the Daily News, and iius been displayed in the various Post Offices, so all that should now be required is a reminder. It must also be remembered that fropi tomorrow telegrams will be dearer. In connection with the increase in the fee for letters to twopence, it has been noted that the 1-Jd stamp will probably fall into disuse and be withdrawn from circulation. It is anticipated, however, that the combination Hd and Jd stamps will be seen on letters, till the stocks of 2d stamps have, been strengthened. Speaking to a Daily New 3 reporter yesterday, the Chief Postmaster at New Plymouth (Mr. C. H. Burton) staled that a fair stock of the two-penny stamp was available locally, but' in view if the big demand he estimates that the output will not be sufficient for some time.
