Arrangements for the fight between Facoory, of Wellington, and McCann, of Wanganui, for a purse of £7O, and £l6 expenses, were nearing completion. In regard to the registration of the club it was reported tat matters were proceeding natisfactor- ■ ily. Mr. J5. 11. Young was appointed honorary solicitor to the club. Three? new members, were elected. The committee decided to write to Mr, Tim Tracey asking him to act as referee at the tournament. Those people who reckoned that sugar would bo plentiful as soon as the price was raised were apparently near the mark, as there are now ample supplier available in Stratford at fljd per lb, and no restrictions are being placed on the quantity ordered; An inebriated man had a lucky escape from injury last night. He was walking along Broadway North, between the Fire Station and Seyton street, and when he got to a portion of the footpath which had a steep dip on one side, he suddenly disappeared from view over the low fence. Several passersby went to his assistance and found him about fifteen feet down the bank, happily none the wurne for. his experience. "I would not mind my rates being doubled if I could be provided with a decent footpath on which to walk to and from my business," remarked a ratepayer to-day. He added that the Borough Council should push forward with the loan proposals nuickly, while tjie winter was on, ns everyone was complaining about the bad roads and lark of proper footpaths. It was practically impossible to walk a quarter of a mile from Broadway central in any direction without getting wet feet, he added. The petition for a continuous telephone service in 'Stratford still requires about twenty move signatures before it can be acted upon by thfc Department, and any subscribers desiring to sign it may see the petition at the Borough Council office. The present, being what is known as the "nIT season" in the dairying industry, has resulted in quite an epidemic of marriages in the Stratford district.
