WHITE RIBBON DAY.

The attendance was good on Wednesday to keep the above special day in connection with the Women's Christian Temperance Union, Mrs. Auld presided, and explained the object of the gathering, which is to show the work done by the Union amongst the Maoris, and to get funds to send to Mrs. Walker, of Gisborne, who is superintendent of this department of work. The official paper is brought before the notice of the audience and fresh subscribers are gained. An invitation ito an at home at her house, in Massey Street, was given by Mrs. W. Auld, to be held [on July 14th. Mrs. Dixon, who attended the Provincial Convention at Manaia on June 30, gave a few lines of work done by some of the Unions, as reported:—"Wanganui is giving pleasant evenings to soldiers' wives, also helping to provide hostek for women and girls. At Stratford a Young People's Mutual Improvement Society, at which scientific temperance is a prominent subject, is well attended. Tho young White Ribboners' roll of New Plymouth still leads in numbers. The five minutes speeches were again a feature at the Convention, and were above the average." Mrs, Dixon was thanked for her report. Afternoon tea was served, after which Mrs. 0. Blundell gave an interesting address on the Rev. Samuel Marsden amongst the Maoris. Mrs. Blundell received a vote of thanks. '
