AMATEURS IN WIRELESS.

NEW PLYMOUTH BRANCH OF INSTITUTE. At a meeting of about fifteen wireless enthusiasts held in the Soldiers' Club, New Plymouth, yesterday afternoon, it was decided to form a New Plymouth branch of the New Zealand Wireless Institute. Mr. C. Banks (convenor), who was later elected chairman, explained that a Bill was to come before Parliament shortly, empowering the use of wireless apparatus by amateurs, the proposal being to enable a registered plant to be established in each town under proper control. If the Bill was passed, as seemed likely, the branch could proceed to instal apparatus which would be available to all members and provision would also be made for beginners. The meeting decided to communicate with Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., explaining the efforts being made locally and asking his support for the Bill on behalf of the Branch. The chairman intimated that Mr. Moore, Director of the Technical College, had expressed hiß willingness to give the branch the use of a room at the College for a library. After discussing other preliminary matters the meeting adjourned till next Thursday, at 2.30, when the election of officers, and committee, and adoption of rules will be proceeded with. Members of the Stratford and Hawera branches, who have offered assistance, will probably be present at that meeting.
