PIANO-PLAYING RECORD. By Telesraph—Press Association. Palmerston N., June Albert Steele, of Auckland, broke the world's record for continuous pianoplaying at Palmerston North. Altogether he played for 98 hours and 38 minutes, the previous best being 96J hours by a Frenchman, Eugene Deschtler. INTERESTING LICENSING POINT. Wellington, June 28. Mr. Myers, appearing in support of an application for an additional wholesale liquor license at an adjourned meeting of the Wellingtoa Licensing Bench, raised the point that section o of the Act of 1010, providing that the number of licenses should continue the same after the poll if local no-license was not carried, was now not in force by reason of the Government Act of 1918, which did away with local option, and therefore with that particular section, with the result that the number of wholesale licenses could be legally increased. The Bench agreed, but acting on its discretionary powers, "refused to grant the additional license. A second similar application was also refused.
