HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. Messrs. L. C. Sladden (chairman) F. W. Atkinson, S. G. Smith, »M.P„ E. P. Webster, A. E Washer, and Dr Pookes were pre.sent at the meeting of the New Plymouth High Schools Board ' of Governors held last night. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. H. Trimble, J. S. Pox, and L. A. Nolan. A letter was received from the Education Department approving of the following grants: £3O for doors and drawers in cupboards and lavatory; £39 with a previous grant of £ll, making £SO for the stone will along* the road frontage; £soo to extinguish the Board's liability in purchase of Mr. Grayling's land; £IOO for improving gully on east side of school grounds, and £227 (making a total of £1627) towards the erection of a sick room. Misses E. Andrews and Dotiglas waited on the Board in regard to the need for increased accommodation for girls who desire to board in town. They pointed otit that owing to the difficulty of procuring lodgings, many scholars ; were unable to continue their studies. The N.P.O.G.A. had given the matter a great deal of consideration, and laid be» fore the Board a proposal whereby the whole of the Taranaki province would be canvassed for donations. Besides the sympathetic assistance of the Board, the promoters hoped that the old boys ot the school would gi-«s their assistance. An outline of a town v. country competition was generally approved by the members. The New Plymouth Jocney Club forwarded a donation of £75 to be utilised in making improvements to the boys' school grounds. y The Board then went into committee.
