MEAT TRADE.
BUTCHERS TALK STRIKE. INFERIOR QUALITY OF ARTICLE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 20, 11.5 p.m. London, June 13. The butchers threaten to strike with a view of forcing tne Government to act so as to relieve the present unsatisfactory meat situation. Prominent butchers declare there is a shortage of good meat throughout the United Kingdom, and the public is exasperated at receiving inferior qualities of long-stored meat, chiefly South African anil New Zealand. The difficulty is accentuated by British farmers holding stock back from sale, hoping for a rise in prices after the. removal of Government control. . London butchers, at a mass meeting on Monday, will consider a resolution demanding that all meat, both imported and home killed, be freed from control. —Aus.-N.Z, Cable Assn.
