WEST END CLUB. The annual general meeting of the West End Bowling Club was held at the n aT "' on last evening, the president, Mr. J. D. Sole being In the chair, whilst there was a fair attendance of members. The annual report and balance-sheet congratulated members on the successful j'oar's play. The receipts disclosed a total of £ 2:10 Ts Sid, and the expenditure £ 236 Ills, but Included In this expenditure is an amount of £2O for redemption of debentures In addition to which two years' interest had been paid, so that the actual working show a credit of £l7 17s lid. During the year a working bee had erected a summer house, which would prove very useful when completed. The club had been very successful In again winning the Gllmour Cup, and in addition had nine representatives In the team that toured Auckland with a fair imeasure of success. In club competition, Mr. Billing had again appropriated tho senior championship and Sir. M'overley the junior championship, At the Taranaki tournament in January the winter green was also used and played well. To meet the largely increased maintenance it was desirable that the annual subscription should be raised. In moving the report, the president stated there wero a few items In the balance-sheet that required some explanation. Included in the receipts were the sums of £125 for subscription and locker rents, donations accounted for £8 10s, Including a donation of £3 Rs from tho secretary; entrance fees totalled £l9 is, but £ls went to the Taranaki Centre, the club receiving £3 6s for fees for club competitions. Tea money showed an actual profit of £4O. Two greens had been laid down." and the value of this with tho labor employed was approximately £4OO, but this was only a prospective value and did not appear on the balance-sheet. The actual position was that, the Ilabilties of the club was 40 debentures, equal to £7O, and against this they had £O9 17s 7d in the bank. Whilst, the position was so satisfactory the members must not lose sight of the fact that there was a tremendous amount, of work ahead of them If thev cleared to bring the rinks up to the best In tho province. In bringing un the question of . membership fees, Mr. Sole stated that lhe running of two greens was fairly expensive. The club were fortunate in having a careful caretaker, who was receiving only lis 2d per day, and it. was very probable that, an application for an Increase in salary would be "made. Other expenditure was mounting up, and to help to balance this it was necessary to increase the subscription fee. Othe* clubs that had held meetings had been faced with tho same position, and the lowest lie had heard of was £3 3s. The committee had considered the question, and on their recommendation he moved that the subscription be £3. to be reduced to £2 10s if paid before December 31. This was for summer play.
