NAPIER PARK MEETING. FIRST DAY'S RESULTS. My Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. The Napier Park Racing Club's winter meeting opened to-day in fine weather. The attendance was good and business on the totalisatcr brisk. A total of £21,798 was put through the machine, against £19,955 on the first day last year. Results:— MOTEO HACK HURDLES— Hendra, (It. McSweeney) 1, All Over 2, Marshal Neil 3. Also started: Ladoguer,.> Blrkenvale, Vacuum, Sir Agnes, Banogue, Cyra. Hendra finished easily three lengths ahead of All Over, with a. limp. Marshal Nell was well back. Ladoguer was fourth. Time, 1.24 4-5. PETANE HACK STEEPLECHASE— Oakleigli 1 Slumix 2, Manhattan 3. Also. started: Torchy, Notability, Harbor Light, Master Webster, Te Toa, Jacaranda, 'Cello, Nicomar, Tornea, Neflsche. Notability ran off. Tornea fell over the last fence. Slumlx was several lengths ahead of the top-weight, which, however, put In a great sprint and got the verdict by a narrow margin. Manhattan was a long way back. Te Toa was fourth. Time, 4.20 4-5. STEWARDS' STAKES HANDICAP.—Heather Sprig (A. ,1. McFlynn) 1, Gold Kip 2, Maloha 3. Also started: Bagdad, Goldshine, Risingham, Eheipa, Hindi, Arch Salute, Rose Pink. Heather Sprig led all the way and won by two lengths. Gold Kip and Maloha finished very fast, the former being second by a nose. Arch Salute was fourth. .Time, 1.43 4-5. NAPIER STEEPLECHASE.—Khartoum (F. Flynn) 1, Peneton 2, Luke 3. Also started: Old Munglndi, First Line, Maraetotara, Guanaco, Polthogtie, Silenus, Chillies, Bollln. Horses fell or ran off one after another until the placed horses and Silenus were the only ones to complete the course. Won by two lengths. Time, 6.18 2-5. LADIEIS' NECKLACE HANDICAP.—Ruddy (W. J. Morris) 1, Powder King 2, Ethiopian 3. Also started: Pretty Bobby, Black Lace, Army Service, VeimiUlfon, Tatimi, Europa, King Albert, Sensitive, Loch Dhu, Donnybrook, Buck Eye. Powder King came Hirough fast in the run home, but was a head short of Ruddy at the post. Ethiopian ■was a couple of lengths away. Time, 2.16 3-5. AHURIRI HURDLES —Paddington Green 1, Zola 2, Goldstream 3. Also started: Ore Ore, Meltchlkoff, Strangeways. Paddington Green led over the last obstacle and won by a length. Meltchikoff was fourth. Time, 3.13 4-5. 'SETTLERS' HACK HANDlCAP—Mosthenes (R. Reed) 1, Lord Astolat 2, Piro Plro 3. ENGLISH RACING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, June 17. The Ascot Gold Cup resulted: Tanglers 1, Juveigneur 2, Keysoe 3. Buchan passed the post first, but a protest for crossing was sustained and the race awarded to Tantlers. Received June IS, 7.45 p.m. London, June 17. The race for the Ascot Gold Cup was most exciting. From the entrance to the straight Buchan (Frantt Bullctfs) and Taaglers (Knlme), fought a strenuous battle. Buchan swerved and Tangiers was partly pulled up to come on the outside. Buchan w<n by a neck. An objection on account of crossing was upheld, causing the greatest sensation since 1907, when Eider, after dead-heating with White Knight, was disqualified for bumping.
