WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) June. 12. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Harbor Board was held on Friday. Present: Messrs. J. Hine (chairman), Ogle, Mackenzie, Xosworihy, and Gribbon. The adjourned statutory meeting for the adoption ol the balance-sheet was I held prior to the ordinary meeting. The balance-sheet showed a surplus of ;C120."i over expenditure. The endowments came to £K)(K) for the year. Without these endowments the port would soon be in a bad way, as the wharfages had dropped considerably owing to loss of shipping. The chairman remarked that the wharfage was £2OO better than the previous year, but £SOO worse than it was five years ago. The balance-sheet was adopted. Mr. Gribbon was appointed treasurer for tlve year, and the various committees now holding office were re-elected. l?he offer of the Priestman dredge bucket to several Boards resulted in i their being no buyers. The transfer of the leases of sections 10 and 12, block 43 from R. F. Langman to A. Hick, and sub-lease of a section on West Quay from R. Gribbon ' to W. Day, and sections Waitara East from the board to G. Roberts were all granted. The Board went into committee relative to the wharfages charged on meat handled over the wliarf. On resuming it was reported that a committee had been set up to go into the matter. Mr. Nosworthy gave notice to move at I next meeting that the resolution granting 6d reduction in wharfage on cement be rescinded.
The Valuation Committee's report re upset rentals of a number of sections falling due in July was adopted. Mr. H. Mackenzie gave notice to move Rt the next meeting that Mr. Stead be appointed solicitor to the hoard. The secretary reported that the repairs to the north wall, wharf and breastwork had been attended to. He also reported that £SOO now on deposit fell due this month, and £SOO on July 10. Mr. Gribbon pointed out the large amount now on current account', and thought that £SOO of same could also be placed on deposit. It was resolved that £IOOO be placed at the bank on fixed deposit for two years. The secretary reported that a number of sections held on an annuual tenancy were overgrown with gorse. It was resolved that if these sections are not cleared, the Board will determine the leases. The old coal bin and office standing on the board's property, and acquired by the Farmers' Organisation Society, was sold to-day Aid fetched good prices. The office was sold intact, but the other property had been dismantled and sold in lots.
