NEW PLYMOUTH'S FUTURE. NEW INDUSTRIES. The expectation that, with ingresfc and egress from New Plymouth to Auckland open by means of the Stratford Main Trunk line and the Mokau Road, NewPlymouth would be second to none in New Zealand, was voiced by Mr. A. Goldwater, president of the Taranaki Ohamber of Commerce, at last night's annual meeting. Mr. Uoldwater reminded the Chamber that Taranaki had the land, which Was more thickly populated per acre than ally other portion of New Zealand, and their returns per acre were higher than any other province in New Zealand." "The Government have interested ihttnselves in the matter of assisted immigration," added Mr. Goldwater. "This* is good business, but are we going to get the right sort of immigrants? We want the men and women to come who have mjde up their minds to work, and work honestly, to batter their positions. lam afraid that a proportion of them will be wasters, so too much caution cannot be exercised in the choice made."

Mr. Goldwatter said he understood that shortly a brick making industry would be started in the Vicinity of the town, and also the iron industry tor tho smelting of the iron sand electrically would start in the near future.
