POLITICS AT ST. PETER'S.

IRISH PRIVATE APOLOGISES. London, May 29. The correspondent of the Times at Rome reports that it is now permissible to state that Cardinal Logue, Roman Catholic Primate of Ireland, was. the writer of the formal protest against Bishop Stanley, an English prelate, singing the occasional High Mass during the ceremony of the beatification of Oliver Plunkett- 1 Cardinal Merry del Val, Pontifical Secretary ol State, who also received an impertinent anonymous letter, denied that Bishpp Stanley had been selected to officiate. He explained that the canons served in rotation on May 23, and it was not Bishop Stanley's turn. He invited Cardinal Logue to say whether he approved of the anonymous letter. Cardinal Logue immediately ordered his carriage and hurried to the Vatican, where he tendered Cardinal Merry del "\Jal his apologies and regrets.
