THE CULT OF THE JERSEY.

STRONG DEMAND AND BIG PRICES. AT MR. P. W. CORNWALL'S SALE. The strong demand that exists at tha present time for pedigree Jerseys was again strikingly illustrated by the prices realised at the sale of pedigree Jerseys, which was conducted by Mr. Newton King at Bell Block yesterday, on behalf of the well-known breeder, Mr. F. W. Cornwall. There was a very large attendance of buyers from all parts of the Dominion, and though bidding in the early stages was inclined to be slow, Mr. Ken. P. Kirk, who wielded the hammer, was in good form, and lost no opportunity of placing the various good points of the stock before the purchasers, and elicited keen competition. The result was that soma record prices for this district weije realised, the highest prices being obtained for the five-year-old cow Rosalind's Girl, which was purchased by Murray Bros. (Opotiki) for 367gns. Belle Mahone, a six-year-old cow, was secured by Bert. Luxton (of Omata) for 275gn5., whilst Murray Bros, secured the young cow Kotero for 201gns. Several other cows ranged from lOOgns to 17Ggns. In all tha thirty-three cows submitted realised 3401 guineas, an average of over 103 guineas. They were well distributed throughout the North Island, and one went to the South Island. The well-known bull Holly Bank Squire realised 220gns, the purchasers being Murray Bros. Eight yearling bulls by this sire averaged 58 guineas, the total for the 42 animals submitted being 4080 guineas. The arrangements for the sale were first-class, the animals being sold in a large marquee, with splendid seating accommodation. Details are as follows:
