Bjr Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. After six years' utilisation for war purposes the Crystal Palace is being reconsecrated to public use. The King and Queen opened the Imperial War Museum, which is housed in the Palace. In the course of liis/ speech his Majesty urged none to forget that Britain owed her success in war under God, not to armed forces, but to the labors and sacrifices of soldiers and civilians, men and women alike. It was a democratic victory, the work of the nation in arms, organised as never before for a great national struggle.
Signor Nitti's resignation is confirmed, reports a message from Rome. He announced the cancellation of the bread decree, but this, however, was too late to save the Government. It is expected thnt tSignor Giolitti will be asked to return to power.
At a reunion of comrades of the Ist King Edward's Horse, it was stated that over 550 young colonials in its ranks had .obtained commissions in the. British armies during the war. A memorial, in the shape of an' elongated mile-stone, on which will be inscribed the names of 82 who fell, will be shortly unveiled at Vieille Chapelle, where the regiment held up a German division all day long in 1918. General Herbert Lawrence, in a speech, said he hoped the regiment would continue to link with the overseas Dominions.
The Petit Parisien states that France has asked Sweden to seize the gold which the Bolshevik dovernment deposited in Sweden. Also it is reported that France lias asked England to seize a ship carrying Russian gold,and platinum to England. Finnish and Russian delegates have left Helsingfors and Moscow respectively to open negotiations at Dorpit. A Moscow wireless message states that an Armenian delegation is journeying to Moscow to, conclude peace with Kussia. After three nights' debate the Labor Conference at Sydney favored reversion to the single electorate system. Commenting on the Melbourne Press telegram expressing astonishment at the inability of Mr, A. Robinson to convert the Victorian loan, and contrasting London financiers' cool reception when the money market was approached with the enthusiasm they displayed over the Commonwealth efforts during the war, Mr. Kobinson savs that, on the contrary, he received' every consideration from financial circjes. The fact is that Victoria can borrow as cheaply, but not, more cheaply, than the British Government. •Father O'Donnell returns to Australia in July. The Army Council .paid him £BSO for his expenses in connection with his recent arrest and couit-roartial.
