DOMINION DEFENCE.
SCHEME TO BE DRAWN UP. A COMMITTEE APPOINTED. By Teloßraph.—Press Association. j Wellington, Lust Night. Approval has been given for the setting up of a Committee of Defence to consider and report confidentially to the Minister of Defence on the problems of defence, and the important policy questions connected therewith. The committee is constituted as follows :—Pre9ident, Major-(fenoral Sir E W. C. Chaytor; members, Major-General Sir A. H. Russell, Major-General Sir A. W. Robin. Brigadier-General G. S. Richardson, Commander T. A. Williams, Colonel T. .T. Esson; secretary, Lieut.Colonel R. B. Smythe. The committee has power to add to its numbers and to call experts to give evidence. The functions of the committee are:— fl) To coisider questions and elaborate plans of defence from the point of view of the mUHary forces, naval forces, air force, and Imperial defence. (2.) To advise the Minister regarding the allocation of funds to be devoted to defence. (3.) To obtain and collect information from various departments of the State. (4.1 To prepare anv documents required by the Minister, (5.) To furnish such advice as might be given. (fl.) To keen adeqnate records for the | permanent information of tie Minister.
