THE DOMINION CONFERENCE. By Ttlemph —Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The hospital conference adopted a recommendation that the principle of a proportion scheme for subsidies on rate levies proposed by the Government be approved, but that the minimum rate of the subsidy be 12s 6d in tbe £. An amendment by the Waikato Board that the minimum should be 15s in the £ was lost by 21 to 11. The conference also adopted remits to empower local authorities to levy a special rate in the districts for the purpose of subsidising or paying the salary of a district nurse; urging the introduction of a short Act placing hospital boards on an equal footing with other local bodies as regards borrowing powers; affirming that hospital boards should be exempt from stamp duties on cheques; and advocating that all supplies for the maintenance and upkeep of hospitals be procured and distributed by the Depart* ment.
