HUNTING.

NORTH TARANAKI CLUB. YESTERDAY'S MEET. The second meet of Ihe season took place at Mr. F. Sampson's Sentry Hill, yesterday and. favored by fine weather, a fairly large number of followers and spectators assembled Mr and Mrs. Sampson and family have been enthusiastic and practical supporters of the hunt ever since its inception. They had made splendid arrangements for ensurine a full measure p,f sport. It came as a mild surprise to quite a number of followers to find that a drag hunt was to be provided, and after three Mod runs had taken place, the majority seemed to have been most favorably impressed The drag was laid by Mr. Anstls. Jnr who mounted on Mr tllimie's hunter, towed a piece of sacking which had been strongly saturated with oil or aniseed, over a. 'specified piece of country, on which the wire fences had been sparred, and other temporary fences erected This provides a strong scent for the hounds, and ensures a fast run with a "full cry" of music. A few couples of hounds will be specially trained for this class of sport, and will be used at meets where farm areas are limited It is thought that drag hunting w id be much more popular In dairy farm coun'ry and it would certainly provide greater nwci tacuiar enjoyment for thoso who" assemble to look on. Mr. and Mrs. Sampson very hospitably entertallied the gathering.
