BOXING.
TARANAKI TOURNAMENT CONCLUDED. -: ANOTHER PACKED HOUSE. ~ The Empire Theatre was again crowded last night.for the conclusion of the Inaugural tournament held under the auspices of the Taramiki Boxing Association. The bouts last night proved much more interesting and ex- , citing than on the Brat night, the audience demonstrating their delight in no uncertain manner. There can be no doubt that the Association has more flrlmy established it- , self with the public, whoso supoprt can Be replied upon at any future tournament. . As on the first evening, the arrangements were complete, and the programme was carried out without a hitch, a tribute, to the . stage manager (Mr. G. H. Saunders), who was ably assisted by the committee and officials The majority of the finals in the amateur bouts were very closely contested. In two of them the referee (Mr. Tim Tracey) was unable to separate the men. In one case he ordered an extra round, and in the other he gave a draw. The professional bout between Brown and Wlnlki proved a much brighter dlsnlay than the first night's bout, being fought very i cleanly, and being almost free from clinching. Brown proved somewhat of a surprise packet, , gaining the verdict rather comfortably from < Winlkl, who was generally expected to win. Mr. Tim Tracey gave every satisfaction as referee. Details are: AMATEUR FINALS. I BANTAM. T. D. Rolston (New Plymouth) S.l, beat T. ! Chapman (New Plymouth), B.O.—Rolston forced the fighting in the early stages, but Chapman stood up gamely and at one stage of the third round had Rolston thinking. The fourth round was more even. Chapmat was inclined to hit with the open glove, and .he remarked to the audience at the conclusion ■ that no matter how many blows were hit with the open glove they did not count. LIGHTWEIGHT. ' A. Duggan (Normanby) 10.0, beat ,T. THE NEXT TOURNAMENT. The Association lmve derided to match Thompson (Toko and Brown (New Plymouth) the respective winners, at a tournament to he held here in a month's time. A number of special amateur bouts will also be staged
