MeLeod) yesterday chose Jhe following to represent the province against Wanganul at Winganul on Thursday next: — Full-back: George (Clifton). • I Thres-Qiiarters: Hlckey (Walmate), Sykes (Old Eoy»), and Robertson (Haw,era). The above teams met In the senior grade of the Thursday competition at Western Park yesterday afternoon. At times the play on both sides was very ragged, the backs failing tn handle the ball well, and both teams, as a whole, lacked combination. Inglewood kicked off with (he advantage of tho wind, and for j some time kept Tukapa busily on the defensive till relief came for the blues by good kicking on tho part of H. Oliver, which brought the play into the Inglewood 25. -Here Atkinson, a Tukapa forward,- picked up from !ho loose and scored near the corner. Oliver failed with the kick. Almost Immediately afterwards H. Oliver landed a fine goal frnm a penalty kick on the half-way line. Inglewood forwards then showed up prominently and brought play Into the blue's 25, bui Cocker headed a Tukapa rush and regained th" ground lost, a score almost resulting. Play hovered about midfleld for some time, during which Inglewood had an unsuccessful attempt to score from a. fret- kick. H. Oliver shortly afterwards broke away but was collared near the corner by Sutherland (the Inslewood full-back). from * free kick Oliver just failed to place the hall between the uprights. After half-time Tukapa kicked off, but play remained about midfleld for a considerable time during which Inglewood had two unsuccessful shots at goal. A good passing rush on the part of tho Tnlinna hacks saw the hall pass from Hart to Hurley to Oliver to,Stohr (wing-three-quarter), the latter scoring near the corner The try was not converted. Mr. L. Hunnhries was referee. STRATFOItD~(9)~v. ELTHAM (0). Stratford and Eltham met for the first time this season at Tumata Park. Eltham yester- ■ day, when the visitors, after a verv Rlnmious game, defeated the home team bv 9 points to nil. There was a good attendance of spectptors, and the ground appointments were excellent, with the exception that the goal posts had not been padded. ' Eltham were unfortunately without the services of Stanners, .lentworth, and Sinclair, three of their i leading itlayers i Elrhn»in kicked off, and after five minute* ; of loose play. Klvell (Stratford) obtained l possession of the ball and scored a trv which Collins failed to convert. Scrum tilav ensued after which Stratford rushed" Eltham to the half-way line, when an Eltham player made a brave attempt to get through, but was collared. Eltham pressed Stratford close to their goal line, hut wero penalised. Later, the Eltham half secured the ball from a scrum and kicked well up to Stratford's 25, but Rogers (Stratford) got possession, and following up secured Stratford's second try (•lose behind (he goal pests. Carlson took the kick hut made a. poor attempt. Following several serums, Eltham pressedtheir opponents close to their goal line, whore thev made desperate attempts to score without, however any success. On resuming after half time, Elthrm put in some good play, and kept Stratford busv until the latter were relieved by a long Iclck. After again pressing Eltham close to their line McDonald scored Stratford's third try, placing the hall ajmost behind the posts. Collins took the kick, but. .failed to convert. A good rush by Eltham brought plav Into Stratford's territory, the visitors having their work cut out in keeping their opponents In check. ColIns made an attempt at drop-kicking n goal, but his attempt did not Improve the position, and when the whistle blew the score stood: Stratford 9, Eltham nil. The game from the outset resolved Itself Into a tussle between the opposing forwards, but there was very little conspicuous plav. Masters, King, Klvell, and Rogers played best For Stratford, and Carlson and Moir for Eltham. Mr. D. George was referee. SECOND GRADE. STAR (8) v. INGLEWOOD (3). m lio above teams snot at Inglewood yesterday. Star Irtcked off. and. after olav up and down the field, Star forced. A few minutes after Miles had an unsuccessful kick. Inglewood now fought hard to score, and another kick by Miles just dropped short. Inglewood still presesd hard, hut could not score. Miles having another shot, at goal, which proved successful. Half time sounded with no further score Inglewood kicked off. and after good play by the Star forwards, Inglewood forced. Star got going again, and after ' a good passing • rush Falwasser scored. .Tenkins failed with the kick. Soon nfter, Hnoko scored from a forward rush. Jenkins added the points From this on play was up and down field, with no further score. Mr. F. Roberts refereed. SECOND GRADE. Old Boys v. Star, on the Recreation Grounds, at 3 pan— G. Boon, .T.
