WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) May 20. The Post and Telegraph Department have purchased Mr. C. Ogle's residence for the postmaster. This has been a long felt want. The present postmaster has not had too rosy a time, having had to jst out of two or three houses owing to and at the present time is boarding at a liotelMessrs. Stainton and Co, have purchased the oil engine Turanga and will trade to coastal ports. The fishing trawler Kapui made her initial catch this weelc and scored with a few tons of fish. It is hoped the new venture will turn out successful for the new owners. The Hon. C. .1. Parr (Minister for Education) has consented to visit Waitara on the 27th inst., the same day as he visits New Plymouth. The urgent need of the new State School as proposed will be placed before him, and also other matters. The s.s. Wetere arrived back from Te Kopura on Tuesday last- 111 addition to timber for the Mokau snagging punt, she brought 12,000 feet of kauri for Messrs. Topless and Lucas. TJie fortnightly Druid's dance last evening was •''a wash-out", not enough rolling up to enable the committee to open up. The public have been surfeited witb dances and other amusements lately and it only s,tands to reason that- the purse cannot stand it. It would probably be better for the different societies to combine and have a forinightlv dance, instead of two, or three a week, and r!ivide the spoil. Owing to the Borough Council absolutely refusing to extend the lighting after 12 p.m., long dances are now out of the question
