SPREADING IN TARANAKL The spread of noxious \vee4s was referred to at the conference of Uie Taralinki Farmers' Union 011 Wednesday. Mr. ISetts (Jlaunin) moved: "Tliat tho attention of the Government be drawn to the spreading of noxious weeds in Tarnnaki through the importation of wecd-infectod seeds and horse-feed, and that more drastic action should be taken to prevent the sale of impure seeds and feed, and that the conference suggests that in the ease of seed the best solution of this matter is the raising within the Dominion of as much of the seeds required under legislation prohibiting the sale of any seed other tlun that which is from a crop which has been inspected and passed by a Government inspector prior to saving, and sacks branded as such by Government inspectors prior to sale." Thirty years ago, tho mover said, noxious weeds were not known in this vicinity, but now the country was getting over-run with them. Mr. Cleaver seconded. The president said that it was in x the interest of the State th..t the land should not. be polluted with noxious weeds. All seed offered for'sale should have some warranty, and legislation could do a great deal. The remit was carried.
