A CASE OF BIGAMY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmcrston N., May 10. Albert Earnest Kearus, a returned soldier, pleaded guilty in the Police Court to-day to a charge of bigamy, that having been married to Grace Darling Hodgkinson at Naipier on April 14, 1909, he did go through the form of marriage with Clara Annie Sowerby ai Palmerston North on January 27, 191 H. Accused was committed for sentence at the Supreme Court at Palmerston North. SLAUGHTERMEN'S STRIKE. Christchurch, May 10. The Slaughtermen's strike at Islington which began a week ago has ended I and the men have returned to work today. ! THE BONUS FOR TEACHERS. Wellington, May 10. The executive of the Education Institute has had under consideration a bonus to teachers recently approvtd by Cabinet. The bonus is regarded as quite inadequate, even as a relief to the present position, and ag having no bearing on the wider question of reasonable remuneration of the professional body. In an interview to be held next Saturday with'the Minister of Education, the executive will submit the claims of the profession in regard to the system of control, basis of payment, and scale of salaries. CHARGE OF THEFT, Timaru, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, two young men, who were members of the crew of the Corinthic, which was in Timaru on April 22, were committed for trial on a charge of theft of overcoats
